Conversely it also does not take into consideration people who have lost muscle mass, such as the elderly, and may be in the "healthy weight" category but actually have reduced nutritional reserves. BMI, therefore, is useful as a general guideline. Your doctor should evaluate your health in total before deciding whether or not to perscribe diet pills. Diet pills can be prescribed for weight loss if your BMI is 30 or greater or if your BMI is 27 with other medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, or type 2 diabetes.
