BMI Calculator - Body Mass Index Calculator
One of the factors a doctor will take into consideration before prescribing a diet pill is your BMI. Your doctor may offer the option of a diet pill if your BMI is over 30 or over 27 if you also have a serious health condition in addition to obesity.
The obesity-related health issues include:- Heart disease and stroke
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Cancer
- Gallbladder disease and gallstones
- Osteoarthritis
- Gout
- Breathing problems
Using BMI as a measurement is only part of what the physicians look at as it does have it's inherent problems. The tool does not take into consideration very muscular people who may fall into the "overweight" category when they are actually healthy and fit. Conversely it also does not take into consideration people who have lost muscle mass, such as the elderly, and may be in the "healthy weight" category but actually have reduced nutritional reserves. BMI, therefore, is useful as a general guideline. Your doctor should evaluate your health in total before deciding whether or not to perscribe diet pills. Diet pills can be prescribed for weight loss if your BMI is 30 or greater or if your BMI is 27 with other medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, or type 2 diabetes.Calculate Body Mass Index
